As you may already be aware, melatonin is an important
piece of the sleep puzzle. That's why I want to take a moment to share with you
my thoughts on melatonin supplementation.
There are two important factors to consider when taking a melatonin supplement:
timing and dosage. For melatonin to help you get a good night's sleep, you
need to get it into your system at the time you want to sleep and in a dosage amount
that WORKS FOR YOU.
One melatonin tablet contains 500 mcg of pure melatonin. For most people, one or
two tablets is enough for them to fall asleep. Others may require a dose of three or four
tablets in order to get to sleep and stay asleep. Only you can determine what works
best for you.
Something to keep in mind is this ... the melatonin will enter your system quicker if
chew the tablet as opposed to swallowing it. It takes longer
to get into your blood stream from the stomach than it does by chewing it.
What I sometimes do is swallow one tablet, and let a second tablet dissolve under
my tongue. This gives me a "time-release" affect. The one I chewed helps me
